The Empire Home Center community is grieving the loss of Melinda O’Neill, co-owner, business leader, and cherished friend, who passed away on September 2, 2025, just eight days shy of her 50th birthday.
Born on September 10, 1975, in Reading, Pennsylvania, Melinda was more than the face of Empire Home Center—she was the driving force behind its growth and success. Alongside her husband, Harry O’Neill, she purchased the business from family in 2019, having previously played a key role in sales and marketing when the store operated as a family-owned surplus shop.
Under her leadership, Empire Home Center grew from a small local store into a multi-location retailer offering brand-name products to homes across Berks County and beyond. Known for her warmth and generosity, Melinda cultivated strong customer relationships and inspired her team with dedication, vision, and care.
Beyond her business achievements, Melinda was passionate about helping people create their dream homes and was also a Realtor with Iron Valley Real Estate of Berks. A graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School, she later attended LaSalle University and made her home in Leesport, Pennsylvania.
In a statement, Empire Home Center shared:
“Melinda’s warmth, leadership, and generosity will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We ask that you please keep Melinda’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
