Stephen Geer, a 43-year-old mechanical engineering professor at the Colorado School of Mines, was arrested following a suspected DUI crash that killed Golden Police Officer Evan Dunn and injured another officer. The incident occurred on Colorado Highway 58 near Washington Avenue in snowy conditions. Geer claimed to have had one beer before the collision.

Geer faces potential charges of vehicular homicide and assault, with a bond set at $250,000. He will remain in custody unless he posts bond, and his hearing is scheduled for November 14. Officer Dunn, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other officer suffered serious injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol noted that Geer’s driving was “unsafe on an already dangerous day” due to poor road conditions. Geer’s defense attorney argued that the crash could have been an unfortunate accident, given the earlier crash and lack of clear warning signs. No blood alcohol test results were available at the time of the hearing.
Officer Dunn is survived by his wife, Annalise, and their dog, Remy, as well as his parents and two siblings. Annalise described Evan as a man of faith, loyal, steady, quiet, and observant, with a deep love for the outdoors.
