Everett, Massachusetts — The city of Everett and the surrounding construction community are mourning the sudden loss of Paul Ledwell Jr. and Larriston Lake, who died on October 24, 2025, after a crane collapsed at an industrial construction site near 201 Rover Street along the Mystic River. The crane, operating from a barge during routine construction work, unexpectedly collapsed, trapping the two men. Despite swift action from emergency responders, both Paul and Larriston succumbed to their injuries. Paul Ledwell Jr., 37, was remembered by family as “a gentle soul with a heart full of love,” whose kindness extended far beyond his work. Larriston Lake, a devoted father of four, was lauded for his dedication to family and community, leaving behind a lasting legacy through his children and those who knew him.

Both men were employed by a subcontractor on the site under Charter Contracting, the primary company overseeing the project. Statements from the company and local officials expressed profound sorrow. CEO Robert Delhome of Charter Contracting said, “We are devastated to learn that two individuals from a subcontractor have died following a horrific accident at one of our job sites. We are coordinating with public safety officials to understand what happened.”
Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria also extended heartfelt condolences, pledging a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse. Law enforcement, including the Massachusetts State Police and Everett Police, alongside the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and OSHA, are actively investigating the incident.
