The family of one of the students injured in Wednesday’s shooting at Evergreen High School has confirmed that their loved one is 18-year-old Matthew Silverstone. The announcement was made through a statement issued via the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

“The family appreciates the community’s concern and support, but as we remain focused on our loved one’s recovery, we respectfully request privacy as we continue to heal and navigate the road ahead,” the statement read.
The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon at Evergreen High School, located in the foothills west of Denver. Authorities reported that 16-year-old Desmond Holly brought a firearm and ammunition onto the campus before opening fire. Two students were struck—one inside the school and one outside—before Holly turned the weapon on himself. He later died from self-inflicted injuries.
Both injured students were rushed to St. Anthony’s Hospital, with one later transferred to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora for specialized care. Officials confirmed that one student remains in critical condition, while the other sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The name of the second student has not been released at the family’s request.
Investigators are examining Holly’s motive, including whether extremist influences may have played a role in the attack. Authorities have not yet determined if the shooting was targeted or random.
The Evergreen community has been left shaken, with students, faculty, and families struggling to process the incident. Evergreen High School will remain closed for the remainder of the week as officials focus on both the ongoing investigation and providing mental health support to those affected.
