Fairfax Community Mourns 93-Year-Old Russell Olson After Tragic House Fire
The community of Fairfax, Iowa, is grieving the loss of 93-year-old Russell Olson, who tragically died in a house fire early Sunday morning, October 5, 2025.

According to officials, the fire broke out at Olson’s residence on Olson Court in the early hours, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency units. Despite firefighters’ determined efforts to control the blaze and rescue those inside, Russell was unable to make it out of the home. Four others managed to escape, with two being treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital.
