Homicide detectives took over the investigation and quickly identified the suspect as Lane’s stepfather, 78-year-old Lawrence Edward Leonard. Sources indicate the incident originated from a domestic disturbance between family members that rapidly escalated, leading Leonard to allegedly discharge a firearm and strike Lane.

No other injuries were reported, and Leonard was taken into custody without incident. The motive appears tied to the family disagreement, though detectives continue to gather evidence, including witness statements and forensic analysis from the scene.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ed Gonzalez stated, “This is a heartbreaking case of domestic violence turning deadly. Our thoughts are with the family as we work to ensure justice is served.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with charges expected to be filed against Leonard for murder. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division at 713-221-6000.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of familial disputes in the community, with local advocates calling for increased resources for conflict resolution services. Updates will be provided as more details emerge.
