A family’s day of love and togetherness was tragically shattered on Monday evening when 94-year-old Aida Maldonado was killed in a violent crash, just moments after enjoying a warm family gathering at her daughter’s home. The crash occurred as she was being transported back to her nursing home via an Access Lynx bus, a ride that was meant to be a short 30-minute journey. Her family, already waiting for her arrival, never imagined the devastating events that would unfold.

Investigators say an 18-year-old driver of a Ford Mustang was speeding when he collided with the side of the Access Lynx bus, causing such force that the bus was knocked off its axles. The crash left only faint skid marks on the pavement, leading authorities to question whether the driver had attempted to brake before impact. Maldonado and another passenger, an 81-year-old man who relied on the bus for dialysis, were both killed instantly. The driver of the Mustang and a 17-year-old passenger were seriously injured and transported to the hospital.
For Maldonado’s family, the loss is nearly impossible to grasp. “We still can’t believe it,” said her granddaughter, Edna McGrew, fighting back tears. The family had just spent a beautiful day with her, unaware that it would be their final moments together.
Maldonado was a vibrant, spirited woman known for her infectious humor and love of life. She often filled the room with laughter, and even at 94, she kept a youthful energy, joking that Puerto Rican singer Chayanne was her boyfriend.
