A nearly eight-hour standoff in Holliday, Texas, ended in tragedy late Thursday night, November 7, when law enforcement fatally shot a 28-year-old suspect.

The incident began at 3 p.m. when Archer County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Ford Road home after reports of gunfire. Deputies were met with gunfire from the suspect, wielding a long rifle. Officers returned fire, calling in backup from Wichita County Sheriff’s Office and Wichita Falls Police Department.
The suspect barricaded himself in a metal barn, prompting SWAT teams to deploy drones. Negotiation attempts failed due to the suspect’s refusal to communicate. Law enforcement used an armored Bobcat to dismantle the barn and gain visual access. Toxic chemical agents were deployed to clear the barn, but the suspect remained unaffected.
At 10:15 p.m., the suspect raised his rifle toward officers, prompting lethal force. Wichita County Sheriff David Duke confirmed the suspect’s death.
The Texas Rangers have assumed control of the investigation. The suspect’s identity and his grandparents’ names have not been released.
Holliday ISD and nearby homes were placed on lockdown during the standoff. Multiple agencies were involved, including Wichita Falls Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Rangers.
