FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Wednesday evening argument at a Bragg Boulevard motel turned deadly, leaving one man dead and another behind bars on murder charges.
Fayetteville police say 47-year-old Perry Sykes was shot during a confrontation inside a room at the Motel 6 in the 3700 block of Bragg Boulevard shortly after 6 p.m. First responders rushed Sykes to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Detectives quickly identified the shooter as 24-year-old Chandon Cornelius Taylor, who authorities say knew Sykes prior to the incident. After the shooting, Taylor allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was located and taken into custody a short distance away.
Taylor has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
“This appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals who were acquainted,” a Fayetteville Police spokesperson said Wednesday night.
“There is no threat to the general public.”
Investigators are still working to establish the exact motive and sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
