Ferdinand, IN — The community of Ferdinand is grieving the loss of Bruce Fleck, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, coach, and mentor, who passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the age of 48.

Born on September 10, 1976, in Jasper, Indiana, to Gilbert and Sylvia (Hopf) Fleck, Bruce grew up in Ferdinand with a deep love for sports, teamwork, and community. A 1995 graduate of Forest Park High School, he excelled both in the classroom and on the field, earning the respect of peers and educators alike. His passion for athletics led him to DePaul University, where he proudly played baseball for the Blue Demons and became a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, forging lifelong friendships.
On June 2, 2001, Bruce married Audrey Reckelhoff at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Together, they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and devotion to their three children — Grace, Grant, and Reid. Those who knew Bruce say his greatest joy came from being a father, always present for his children’s milestones, games, and everyday moments.
Professionally, Bruce worked as a Manufacturing Warehouse Manager with Kimball International, where his leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic earned him respect and admiration among colleagues.
Beyond his career, Bruce will be most fondly remembered for his passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes. He dedicated countless hours to Ferdinand Little League, Spikes Baseball, and AAU Basketball, not only teaching sports but instilling lifelong lessons of perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Generations of young athletes knew him not only as a coach but as a mentor and role model who left a lasting mark on their lives.
A man of unwavering faith, Bruce was an active member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and contributed to the Forest Park Letterman’s Club. His life was guided by service, faith, and love for his community.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children, Grace, Grant, and Reid, all of Ferdinand; his parents, Gilbert and Sylvia Fleck of Ferdinand; his brother, Brad (Sara) Fleck of Huntingburg; and his nieces, Loren and Hannah Fleck of Huntingburg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ryan Fleck, whose memory he held close throughout his life.
The loss of Bruce Fleck has left a profound void in Ferdinand, but his legacy of faith, mentorship, and love will endure through the countless lives he touched.
