A tragic collision along Highway 26 in Hillsboro on Monday evening claimed the life of 20-year-old Carlos Andres Marquez-Vargas, a resident of Forest Grove. The fatal crash occurred on the westbound lanes between SE Cornelius Pass Road and NW 185th Avenue, according to the Hillsboro Police Department (HPD).
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the incident and discovered Marquez-Vargas lying in the roadway. Despite immediate life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest that Marquez-Vargas’s motorcycle rear-ended another westbound vehicle, causing him to lose control and be thrown from the bike. He was then struck by two additional vehicles traveling in the same direction, investigators said.
All motorists involved in the crash remained at the scene and are fully cooperating with authorities. Police believe speed played a role in the tragic accident.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART)—a specialized unit consisting of officers from multiple local agencies—was called to assist in reconstructing the scene. Westbound lanes of the highway were closed for approximately six hours as investigators documented evidence and cleared debris.
