Forest Hills, KY — With hearts weighed down by grief, the community of Forest Hills is mourning the passing of Tatum Karter Jessie, a joyful and spirited 5-year-old whose light touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Tatum passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Born on June 18, 2020, in Morristown, Tennessee, Tatum was the beloved son of Alahna Jessie and Isaiah Birchfield. He was known for his brown eyes that sparkled with life, his contagious laughter, and the big neck hugs that wrapped family and friends in pure love. Tatum’s tender heart and playful spirit brought happiness wherever he went. He adored dinosaurs, chips, and music, and his silly sense of humor filled rooms with laughter.
Family and friends remember him as a precious angel who had a special way of making others feel cherished. He was known to hold his mother’s face in both hands and call her “Mommy” with unmatched sweetness—a memory his loved ones will treasure forever.
Tatum is survived by his parents, his sister Wrenlee Whitt, his God Parents and aunt and uncle Madison Jessie and Grayson Cook, his grandparents Ariana Jessie, Stephen Jessie, Sarah Birchfield, Leo Childress, and Ruby Ball, and a large extended family of great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at the Williamson Fieldhouse in Williamson, WV. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12 p.m., also at the Fieldhouse, with Jerry Deskins officiating. Burial will take place at Mountain View Memory Gardens in Huddy, KY. Arrangements are being handled by R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, KY.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Tatum’s love, joy, and beautiful spirit will live on forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing him.
