Nick Mangold, the former All-Pro center for the New York Jets, has passed away at the age of 41 due to complications from kidney disease. His death occurred on the evening of October 25, 2025, just over a week after he publicly disclosed his health battle and appealed for a kidney donor.
Mangold was drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State and played his entire 11-season career with the team. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time All-Pro, anchoring the Jets’ offensive line and earning a spot in the team’s Ring of Honor. Known for his leadership, toughness, and sense of humor, Mangold was a beloved figure both on and off the field.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media on October 14, Mangold revealed that he had been diagnosed with a genetic kidney condition in 2006, which had progressed to chronic kidney disease. He expressed gratitude for his family and community’s support during his ongoing dialysis treatments and transplant search.
Jets Chairman Woody Johnson honored Mangold’s legacy, stating, “Nick was more than a legendary center. He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football.” Mangold is survived by his wife, Jenny, and their four children.
