Fort Pierce police have confirmed 23-year-old Gregory Carson as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening in the parking lot of the Pine Creek Village Apartments. Despite being rushed to HCA Lawnwood Hospital, Carson succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family and the local community devastated by his sudden and tragic death.
The shooting took place in the parking lot of the apartment complex on North 27th Street, where Carson reportedly became involved in a dispute with a group of males. The altercation quickly escalated, and gunfire erupted, fatally injuring Carson. Officers arrived within moments of residents reporting the disturbance and found Carson critically injured. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and unsettling. Walter Parks, a nearby resident, revealed that his grandson had seen part of the confrontation, noting that tensions rose rapidly before the gunshots rang out. Parks recounted that at least one punch was thrown before the situation turned violent. “It hurts to see something like this happen right outside,” he said, emphasizing the emotional toll of witnessing such violence so close to home.
Tyanna Gore, another long-time resident of the area, also heard the gunfire. While violent incidents are not uncommon in the neighborhood, Gore shared her frustration with the frequency of such events. “You try not to get numb to it,” she said. “But when it happens over and over, it’s hard.”
The Fort Pierce Police Department is actively investigating the incident, reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the suspect, described as a young Black male wearing a black t-shirt, black skull cap, and gray joggers, remains at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help advance the investigation.
As the community grapples with this senseless loss, neighbors have expressed their condolences to Carson’s family, hoping for justice and pledging to work together to prevent future violence. The investigation continues, and police are expected to release further updates in the coming days.
