FOUNTAIN, Colo. — Police say a domestic disturbance in Fountain ended in tragedy Thursday morning, leaving a 32-year-old mother dead and her ex-husband also deceased in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.

The Fountain Police Department (FPD) responded around 11 a.m. to a home in the 1500 block of Bonita Drive, where officers discovered the bodies of Amanda Julia “AJ” Carter and her former spouse.
Authorities say Carter, a mother of three, was fatally shot before the suspect turned the gun on himself. Carter’s children — Kora, 13; Hudson, 3; and Aspen, just 7 months old — were reportedly inside the residence at the time of the incident. They are now in the care of relatives.
Family members described Carter as a devoted mother whose life revolved around her children. Her grandmother, Brigitte Juroska, voiced heartbreak over the children’s future, noting the family had faced prior struggles with abuse involving the suspect.
Neighbors also reported that police had been called to the residence in recent months, suggesting a history of domestic conflict.
Carter, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, was remembered as a loving and resilient woman whose life was cut short far too soon.
The investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. FPD has not yet released the name of the suspected gunman.
