GALESBURG – The hallways of Galesburg Junior Senior High School fell silent this week as news spread of the sudden passing of 7th-grade teacher and boys basketball coach Jordan Ball. The well-known educator and mentor died in a tragic accident, leaving students, staff, parents, and the entire community heartbroken.
Jordan was more than a teacher; he was a source of encouragement and inspiration for hundreds of young people. In the classroom, his lessons were filled with patience, humor, and a genuine belief in every student’s potential. On the basketball court, he built not just better players but better individuals, emphasizing respect, hard work, and teamwork.

“Jordan had a special way of making everyone around him feel important,” one colleague shared. “His energy was contagious, and his kindness left a mark on everyone he met.”
Since the news broke, social media and school gatherings have been filled with stories of how Coach Ball cheered the loudest for every player, stayed late to help with homework, and always greeted students with a smile and words of encouragement.
The school has opened its doors to counselors and support staff to help students and faculty through the grieving process. A memorial area in the gymnasium continues to grow with flowers, jerseys, and handwritten notes from those whose lives Jordan touched.
Though gone far too soon, Jordan Ball’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and positivity will continue to inspire the Galesburg community for years to come.
