Jackson County, Oregon, is mourning the tragic death of 26-year-old Cody Austin Jenkins of Gold Hill, who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon.
According to the Oregon State Police, Jenkins was driving a southbound Subaru Legacy on Highway 99 near milepost 12 when his vehicle unexpectedly veered across the northbound lanes. The car broke through a fence and plunged into the Rogue River, becoming quickly submerged. Jenkins, the sole occupant, was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jackson County Search and Rescue Team, along with local authorities, recovered the vehicle from the river. Oregon State Police confirmed that no other vehicles or bystanders were involved, and the highway remained open during the emergency response.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to this devastating accident. Oregon State Police were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Rogue River Fire Department, Jackson County Search and Rescue, and ODOT.
