The community of Grand Island, Nebraska, is mourning the loss of 30-year-old Connor Schlotfeldt, who died following a devastating single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 29 near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2025.

According to the Sioux City Police Department, the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. as Schlotfeldt was driving a Chevy Equinox northbound. His vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed the grassy median, and rolled into the southbound lanes near the Sergeant Bluff rest area. Schlotfeldt, who was alone in the car, sustained life-threatening injuries. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he later succumbed to those injuries.

The crash led to heavy traffic disruptions while emergency responders worked at the scene. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and the investigation is ongoing.
