The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed the death of 21-year-old Mekhi Pelly Scott, a member of Grassy Narrows First Nation, who was reported missing in Kenora in late October. Mekhi was last seen between October 10 and 12, and officially reported missing on October 26. Authorities noted that foul play could not initially be ruled out.
While Mekhi’s remains have not yet been recovered, multiple agencies—including the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team, Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora Makwa Patrol, and local volunteers—are actively continuing the search. In connection with the investigation, 24-year-old Terry Cherry, a Kenora resident, has been arrested and charged with committing an indignity to a dead body. Court proceedings are ongoing.
