The tragic incident resulted in the death of 38-year-old Alessandra Amador Merchant and her husband, 62-year-old Paul Arthur Merchant, after an altercation at their home escalated into violence.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Greensboro Police, Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded to a report of a “family disorder.” Upon arrival, officers were met with gunfire from Paul Merchant, leading to a dangerous standoff that prompted a shelter-in-place alert for the surrounding area. A juvenile inside the home was safely evacuated, with law enforcement working quickly to de-escalate the situation.

After a tense standoff, officers entered the residence to find both Paul and Alessandra dead from gunshot wounds. The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, with Alessandra’s death marking the 34th homicide in Greensboro for 2025.
