The city of Halifax is mourning the loss of Jaskaran Anand, a beloved member of the community whose passion for science, art, and life left an enduring mark on everyone he encountered. Known to friends as “Jas,” he passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, intellect, and creativity.
A proud graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Jaskaran earned his Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biology, pursuing his lifelong fascination with discovery and innovation. He later worked as an analytical chemistry research assistant, where his sharp mind, curiosity, and dedication to excellence inspired both mentors and peers. His colleagues remember him as a bright thinker who was always eager to learn and contribute meaningfully to every project he undertook.
Outside the lab, Jaskaran was equally passionate about the arts and culinary creativity. A gifted painter and sketch artist, he found joy in translating emotion and imagination onto canvas. His love for food was another reflection of his warm and generous spirit — he was known to cook for friends and family, turning every shared meal into a celebration of connection.
Friends describe him as gentle, joyful, and deeply compassionate, someone who uplifted others through both his words and his actions. “Jas had this incredible ability to make people feel seen and appreciated,” one close friend shared. “He lived with purpose, curiosity, and love — qualities that made him unforgettable.”
A Celebration of Life in Jaskaran’s honor will be held on October 24 from 8–10 p.m. at @rumours.hfx, where loved ones will gather to share memories and celebrate his vibrant life. Guests are encouraged to bring flowers. Following the remembrance, a dance party will take place — a heartfelt tribute to a young man who truly loved to dance and live freely.
As Halifax remembers Jaskaran “Jas” Anand, his spirit continues to shine through the art he created, the science he explored, and the many hearts he touched.
Rest in peace, Jas — your light will forever live on in the community you inspired.
