Authorities have identified the man found deceased in a vehicle Wednesday as Officer John Schimmoeller of Rawson, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded shortly before noon to a report of a vehicle in a field near 14636 State Route 698. When they arrived, they discovered Schimmoeller inside the vehicle, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings indicate the death was self-inflicted. Investigators said there are no signs of foul play, and officials emphasized there is no threat to the public.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains ongoing as reports are finalized and all circumstances are reviewed.
