The Harrisburg Air National Guard Base conducted a scheduled active shooter simulation on Saturday, which briefly placed the installation under a temporary lockdown. The drill was part of ongoing training efforts aimed at testing the base’s emergency response procedures, security measures, and inter-unit coordination.
During the exercise, all entry and exit points were sealed off, personnel were instructed to shelter in safe zones, and security teams activated simulated threat protocols. Officials assured the public that the lockdown and surrounding activities were part of a controlled scenario and that no actual threat to the base or surrounding areas existed.

“This drill is essential for ensuring that our personnel are well-prepared for any real-world emergency,” said base leadership. “Maintaining high levels of readiness and safety is our priority, and these exercises are a key component of that commitment.”
Once the exercise concluded, normal operations resumed with no injuries or major disruptions reported, aside from the brief lockdown.
Although community members and nearby residents were informed that the event was purely a simulation, officials acknowledged that the increased activity around the base might have been concerning to some. They reassured the public that the event posed no risk to public safety.
