The Heyfield sporting community has been left devastated by the sudden passing of Ben Darby, affectionately known as “Darbs,” a beloved young footballer, loyal teammate, and respected club member. His loss has created an immense void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him both on and off the field.

From a young age, Ben’s love for football was evident. A proud “Roo for life,” he came through the juniors with the Heyfield Football Netball Club, where his passion, determination, and natural talent quickly made him stand out. His senior debut in 2022 was a moment of immense pride for Ben, his family, and his teammates.
In recent years, Ben became a key player in the club’s Reserves team, where his performances during the 2025 season were nothing short of outstanding. His efforts earned him both the League Best and Fairest and the Club Best and Fairest — prestigious honors that highlighted his consistency, leadership, and influence. For Ben, however, football was never just about awards; it was about giving his all for his team and community every week.
Teammates admired him for his quiet determination, humility, and reliability in big moments. Off the field, Ben was known as a caring and supportive mate who could always be counted on to share a laugh or offer encouragement. His genuine nature and loyalty made him cherished by friends, teammates, and the broader Heyfield community.
In a heartfelt statement, the Heyfield Football Netball Club paid tribute:
