HIGHLAND, IN — The close-knit community of Highland, Indiana, was shaken early Wednesday morning by the news of a fatal car crash that took the life of 47-year-old Theodore McSwine. At around 4:39 a.m., officers from the Highland Police Department responded to a call reporting a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 / Indianapolis Boulevard, near the 9200 block.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered that McSwine’s 2021 Jeep had veered off the road, struck a tree, and overturned in a vacant lot. McSwine, who was alone in the vehicle, was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at 5:58 a.m. following an autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Investigation Underway
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with authorities examining various potential factors, including road conditions, weather, and mechanical failure. The Highland Police Department, along with the South County Accident Reconstruction Team, is working closely with the Lake County Coroner’s Office to determine what led to the tragic accident.
The crash temporarily shut down a portion of Indianapolis Boulevard as crews cleared the scene and documented the wreckage. The roadway has since been reopened to traffic.
