A tragic accident in Highland Township, Michigan, claimed the life of 53-year-old Todd Michael Luark on Sunday evening after his bicycle was struck by an SUV, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the collision occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on South Milford Road near Rowe Road. Luark was riding his bicycle southbound when a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also traveling south, veered across the solid white line and hit him from behind.

Deputies arrived to find Luark unconscious in the driveway of a nearby home. Despite CPR and life-saving efforts by paramedics, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old man from Farmington Hills, remained on-site and cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not announced any charges at this time, and no indication of impairment has been reported.
An autopsy for Luark was scheduled for Monday, while the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
Community members have expressed grief and shock over Luark’s sudden passing, remembering him as a kind and active resident whose love for cycling was well known among friends.
