HOUSTON, Texas — Authorities have charged 42-year-old Gonzalo Leon Jr. with murder following the fatal shooting of 11-year-old Julian Guzman, who was killed while playing a prank in his neighborhood.
The incident occurred around 10:55 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, in the 9700 block of Racine Street. Witnesses told investigators that Guzman had been taking part in a “ding-dong ditch” prank, ringing doorbells and running away, when Leon allegedly opened fire.

Guzman was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead on August 31.
Police initially detained and questioned another individual, who was subsequently released. After further investigation, detectives identified Leon as the primary suspect. On September 1, charges were formally filed, and on September 2, Harris County Police SWAT and CAT units arrested Leon without incident. He is currently being held at Harris County Jail.
Authorities have not disclosed a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The loss of young Julian has shaken the Houston community, sparking an outpouring of grief and calls for safer neighborhoods. Local leaders and neighbors have urged calm as investigators work to bring justice in the case.
