The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has confirmed the tragic discovery of 25-year-old Lazarus Howard III’s body on Wednesday, ending a months-long search that began when he went missing in July. Howard’s remains were found near Highway 20, and preliminary findings indicate foul play may have been involved. An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Howard was reported missing on July 19, after his last communication with his mother on July 10. Despite a sustained investigation, it wasn’t until detectives received an anonymous tip that progress was made. The tip led them to 19-year-old Kylan James Haley, who has since emerged as a key suspect. Authorities traveled to Montgomery to question Haley, and it was during this investigation that Howard’s body was discovered.

As a result of the findings, HPD has issued a murder warrant for Haley, and efforts are underway to extradite him back to Madison County to face charges.
HPD is urging anyone with further information to come forward as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding Howard’s death. Authorities also expressed gratitude for the community’s assistance in the case.
