Lawrence County Shooting Incident Leads to Attempted Murder Charges
A 31-year-old Indianapolis woman, Nina Devillez, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a violent confrontation in Lawrence County.

A violent confrontation in Lawrence County on Monday night has left a man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds, while a woman faces serious charges, including attempted murder.
The incident unfolded around 7:50 p.m. on the west side of the county when a 911 call captured a heated exchange between the male victim and the assailant, followed by gunshots and pleas for help.
Responding to the distress call, deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, including Sgt. Robin Compton, Deputy Thomas Porter, and Capt. Lonnie Johnson, arrived at the 6700 block of US 50 West.
They discovered a 44-year-old man from Indianapolis who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Sgt. Compton applied a tourniquet to control bleeding, while other officers provided immediate first aid. The man was first transported to Bloomington Hospital and later airlifted to Indianapolis due to the severity of his injuries.
The alleged shooter, 31-year-old Nina Devillez from the Indianapolis area, was apprehended soon after the shooting by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. During the investigation, authorities believe the altercation began on a secluded drive leading to a field.
Deputies obtained critical details from witnesses and gathered evidence from the scene, which included multiple search warrants and thorough crime scene processing.
Devillez faces several charges, including attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and pointing a loaded firearm. The motive and circumstances that led to the altercation remain under investigation, with authorities working to piece together the events preceding the shooting.
Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day commended the swift response and teamwork between local law enforcement agencies, which led to the suspect’s quick detention and ensured the victim received timely medical care.
The Marion Township Fire Department, IU Health Lifeline Ambulance, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technicians, Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and Martin County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response.
As the investigation progresses, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office plans to release additional details. Law enforcement emphasizes that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Devillez’s charges will be formally reviewed through the judicial process to determine her guilt or innocence based on presented evidence.
