The Pittsburgh community is reeling after the tragic discovery of an infant’s body in the trunk of a car on the city’s North Side late Friday night. Authorities say the incident is under active investigation as detectives work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking death.
Police were called to the 1300 block of Merchant Street around 8:45 p.m. after a suspicious vehicle was reported. Upon approaching the car, officers detected a strong odor and discovered the deceased infant inside the trunk. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the baby dead at the scene.

Officials have not released the infant’s identity, gender, or how long the child had been deceased.
