Investigation Launched After Death of 24-Year-Old in Jefferson County Jail
Bessemer, AL — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the sudden death of 24-year-old D’Koleman Juvan Harris, found unresponsive in his cell at the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025. Harris was discovered around 8:15 a.m., and despite swift attempts by jail staff and medical responders to revive him, he was declared dead shortly after.

While no apparent signs of trauma were found at the scene, authorities have confirmed that an autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the precise cause and manner of death.
