The rural roads of Darke County, Ohio, were the site of a serious early-morning crash on Sunday that left 36-year-old Jacob Hobbs of West Milton injured and the community on edge.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Hobbs was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze on Castine Gordon Road near the small community of Laura when he lost control, crossed into the opposite lane, struck a culvert, and slammed into a utility pole.
Driver Found Injured in Nearby Field
First responders arrived to find the car severely damaged and abandoned. Moments later, officers discovered Hobbs in a nearby cornfield, alive but suffering from minor injuries. He was transported to Wayne Healthcare for treatment.
Impairment Under Investigation
Investigators suspect substance impairment may have played a role in the crash, though toxicology results are pending. The force of the collision scattered debris across the roadside and left the utility pole heavily damaged.
