The close-knit community of Jayess, Mississippi, is grieving the loss of Clay Coon, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was 50 years old.
Born on September 3, 1975, in McComb, Mississippi, Clay was the cherished son of Jerry and Sylvia Coon, and his passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his loved ones and all who knew him.

Clay was widely admired for his kindness, humility, and compassionate nature — qualities that defined every aspect of his life. A devoted member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, his unwavering faith guided him and inspired those around him to live with grace and gratitude.
A 1994 graduate of Parklane Academy, Clay stood out both academically and athletically. His love for baseball shone from a young age, and his dedication earned him respect from teammates and coaches alike. He went on to attend Southwest Mississippi Community College and later Delta State University, where he continued to pursue his passion for sports and learning.
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Clay was known for his gentle spirit and love for animals. Friends often recalled how his compassion extended to every living creature — a true reflection of his caring heart.
A devoted New Orleans Saints fan, Clay never missed a game, celebrating every victory and standing by his team during tough seasons. Sundays spent cheering alongside family and friends were among his happiest moments.
Those closest to him describe Clay as a man who valued relationships above all else. His warmth, sense of humor, and generosity made everyone feel welcome in his presence. He found joy in simple pleasures — laughter, good company, and the beauty of the outdoors — always expressing gratitude for the blessings in his life.
In one final act of selflessness, Clay chose to become an organ donor, a decision that continues to bring hope to others. His family has learned that his gift of life will benefit at least ten individuals awaiting transplants — a lasting testament to his compassion and generosity.
Clay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvie and Zula Mae Coon, and Hewitt and Elon Sylvia Boyd Cothern.
He is survived by his devoted parents, Jerry and Sylvia Coon of Jayess, MS; his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Maria Coon of Fort Worth, TX; nephews Matthew Clay Coon (Olivia) and Nolan Coon (Kelsie); niece Madelyn Coon (fiancé Matt Hartzell); and great-nephew Cooper Coon — all of whom will forever cherish his memory.
Clay Coon’s life was one of faith, kindness, and quiet strength — and even in death, his legacy continues to touch lives through the ultimate act of giving.
