The Peoria Police Department has confirmed the death of Johnnetta Smith following a shooting that took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday near Republic Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Peoria.

According to Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria, the incident is being treated as a domestic situation, although specific details surrounding the circumstances have not yet been disclosed.
At this time, it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood is overseeing the formal identification process and will publicly confirm Smith’s identity once her family has been notified.
