SUGAR LAND, Texas — A tragic collision on Monday evening claimed the life of Juuce Bond and left another person injured, shutting down a significant portion of Interstate 69 near Sweetwater Boulevard and Highway 6.
Authorities report that the crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. when an SUV, traveling at high speed, collided with a northbound tractor-trailer. The impact struck the passenger side of the SUV, causing extensive damage and trapping the occupants.
First responders arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, the passenger, later identified as Juuce Bond, a longtime resident of Atlanta, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s driver was transported to a nearby hospital, though their condition and identity have not yet been released. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed.
The accident led to the closure of multiple lanes on one of Sugar Land’s busiest roads, leaving only a single northbound lane open and causing traffic backups for miles. Police advised motorists to use alternate routes while investigators worked at the scene.
The Sugar Land Police Department’s Traffic Division, alongside crash reconstruction specialists, is investigating the cause of the collision. Speed is believed to have been a factor, though authorities are reviewing evidence, roadway conditions, and witness accounts to determine if additional circumstances contributed to the crash.
In a statement, officials emphasized the dangers of speeding, particularly on highways shared with large commercial trucks, noting the heightened risk for smaller vehicles in such collisions.
