Kansas City, Mo. — Police have released the name of the man killed in a shooting late Wednesday night near East 10th Street and Prospect Avenue.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Ashton Hams, according to the Kansas City Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the area around 9:30 p.m. after several 911 callers reported gunfire. When they arrived, they found Hams unresponsive on the east side of the intersection. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses told detectives they heard numerous shots just moments before Hams was discovered on the ground outside an apartment complex. Investigators believe one or more suspects opened fire, but no arrests have been announced.
A police spokesperson said the investigation is moving forward and urged anyone with information to contact detectives or call the TIPS Hotline anonymously.
The shooting is Kansas City’s 116th homicide of 2025, slightly higher than the 113 recorded at this time last year. Authorities say they are continuing to increase patrols and community outreach efforts in high-crime areas as they work to curb gun violence.
