The La Crosse County community is grieving the sudden death of 82-year-old Janice Symiczek, who tragically lost her life Thursday morning in a three-vehicle collision on Highway 53 north of Holmen.
According to the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 7:56 a.m. near Sylvester Road. Janice was driving her Jeep when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming dump truck. Emergency crews responded immediately, but despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident forced the closure of Highway 53 for over six hours while authorities, including the Wisconsin State Patrol, worked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Janice’s passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken. She is remembered as a kind and gentle soul whose warmth, compassion, and caring nature touched everyone around her. Loved ones described her as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, always putting others before herself and offering guidance, laughter, and love to those fortunate enough to know her.
Though her life ended unexpectedly, her memory continues to live on in the hearts of those she loved. Family and friends will cherish her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the countless moments of joy and connection she shared.
