LA HABRA, Calif. — Authorities have released additional details regarding the shocking murder-suicide that occurred at Gui Gui Korean BBQ in La Habra on the evening of October 14, 2025, leaving two people dead and diners traumatized.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. at the restaurant inside The Palm Court shopping mall, where officers from the La Habra Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Jaqueline Medrano, 45, of Covina, and Jonathan Wang, 35, of Long Beach, both suffering gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have determined that the tragedy stemmed from a domestic-related dispute, with Wang allegedly shooting Medrano before taking his own life.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos and fear as diners scrambled for cover, hiding under tables or fleeing toward exits. While no other injuries were reported, many present remain deeply affected by the violent encounter.
Records show that Medrano had an active protective order against Wang, issued by the Los Angeles Superior Court just a month prior on September 16, raising concerns about how the suspect was able to approach her and carry out the attack. Authorities are now investigating how Wang obtained the firearm used in the shooting and whether any warning signs were missed.
“This was a senseless act of domestic violence,” the La Habra Police Department said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to Ms. Medrano’s family, and we are committed to uncovering every detail of what led to this tragedy.”
