The Lansing community is grieving the loss of Phil “PJ” Marin, a dedicated UPS driver, lifelong Michigan resident, and cherished friend, whose passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. Known for his infectious humor, warmth, and sense of connection, Phil’s passing has been met with overwhelming sadness from his family, friends, and colleagues.
A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Phil grew up in the area and was a proud alumnus of Heritage High School. He continued his education at Michigan State University, remaining deeply connected to his roots throughout his life. Phil’s strong sense of community, loyalty, and friendship were the cornerstones of his character, qualities that made him a beloved figure to those around him.

Professionally, Phil’s role as a UPS driver was more than just a job—it was a reflection of his commitment to reliability, dedication, and kindness. Known for his legendary sense of humor, Phil could always be counted on for a laugh or a quick-witted remark. His playful personality made him a joy to be around, and he had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him. Friends fondly recall his trademark catchphrase, “That’s what I’m talking about, big cat,” which became part of his unique way of connecting with people.
One friend shared, “He had a tremendous sense of humor and a gift for making every interaction fun. He loved life and was always looking for ways to make people smile.”
Phil’s fun-loving nature was most evident during his Cinco de Mayo shifts, where he became famous for wearing a “sun’s out, guns out” tank top, embodying his spirited personality and love for life’s small joys.
Although Phil’s life was cut short, his legacy endures in the many memories, inside jokes, and moments of joy he shared with family, friends, and colleagues. His kindness, laughter, and genuine nature have left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
