
Authorities in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening in Lexington Park, resulting in the death of a man near a Bellevue Court residence.
According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:40 p.m. on October 27, 2025, after receiving reports of an assault in progress. Dispatchers informed officers that shots had been fired and that an individual appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim deceased near the driveway, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. Authorities identified the suspect as David Scott Jones, 58, a resident at the scene, who was holding a handgun. Jones surrendered the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Jones and the victim had engaged in a verbal confrontation shortly before the shooting. Jones has been charged with:
First-degree murder
Second-degree murder
First-degree assault
Second-degree assault
Use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime
Carrying a loaded handgun
Jones is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center pending a bail hearing. Investigators are continuing their work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
