Lakeside, CA – El Capitan High School went into lockdown Tuesday as deputies responded to police activity in the surrounding area, prompting concern among students, parents, and staff.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the lockdown was issued out of an abundance of caution after reports of suspicious activity nearby. School officials quickly enacted safety protocols, securing classrooms and directing students to shelter in place until the all-clear was given.

Parents were notified of the situation, though many rushed to the campus after hearing about the lockdown. Law enforcement maintained a visible presence at the school to reassure families and manage the situation.
Authorities later clarified that there was no active threat to students inside the campus and stressed that the measure was purely precautionary. Rumors that circulated on social media during the lockdown were quickly dispelled by both the Sheriff’s Department and the Grossmont Union High School District.
By mid-afternoon, the lockdown was lifted after authorities confirmed the outside situation had been resolved. Students were released to their families, and classes returned to normal.
