Loyola Marymount University’s Westchester campus was briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday following reports of a possible shooting threat, prompting a large police response and shelter-in-place orders for students and staff.
Initial alerts from the university directed the community to avoid Parking Lot I while LAPD officers and LMU Public Safety investigated the situation. As a precaution, a follow-up message instructed everyone on campus to shelter in place while authorities assessed the threat.

By late afternoon, LMU confirmed that the reports were unfounded, and the campus was safe to resume normal activities. “The active threat on the Westchester campus has been cleared. You can stop sheltering in place,” the university announced, advising students and staff to continue following instructions from campus security and LAPD.
No injuries or arrests were reported. LAPD officers and campus security remained on-site for a period to ensure safety and reassure the community.
LMU thanked students, faculty, and staff for their cooperation and calm during the incident and emphasized that the safety of the campus community remains a top priority.
