The Lubbock Police Department has identified 44-year-old Jousef Hernandez Cotto as the man who died following a crash Thursday evening in the 200 block of Indiana Avenue.
According to investigators, the incident happened at about 5:29 p.m. on September 18, when an officer saw a passenger car traveling southbound suddenly veer across the northbound lanes, leave the roadway, and smash through a metal fence before striking three parked vehicles at a nearby apartment complex.
Police said the officer immediately began life-saving measures on Hernandez Cotto, who was the sole occupant of the car. EMS transported him for further treatment, but he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary findings indicate Hernandez Cotto sustained a self-inflicted wound before the collision occurred. No other injuries were reported.
Lubbock Police said the case remains under investigation, but noted there is currently “no indication this was accidental.”
