The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman killed in a crash early Wednesday morning in Macedon as 57-year-old Robin Sardone.
Deputies say Sardone was driving south on Hance Road when she failed to navigate the intersection with Route 31F. Her vehicle left the roadway and ended up submerged in a retention pond just south of the intersection.
According to officials, Sardone herself called 911 shortly after 4 a.m., reporting that her vehicle was underwater. The call was disconnected, and attempts to reach her again were unsuccessful.
The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Underwater Recovery Unit conducted an extensive search using divers and drone technology. After more than four hours, crews recovered the vehicle from the pond, where Sardone was pronounced dead at the scene.
A crowd of onlookers gathered near the site as emergency responders worked. Roads in the area were closed temporarily during the recovery operation.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
