In an official statement, RHPD said:

“The Rock Hill Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at the Galleria Mall. The shooter is in custody and there is no threat to the public. There will be an increased police presence visible while the investigation is being conducted.”

Crime scene tape cordoned off sections of the mall and its parking lot as detectives and forensic teams began collecting evidence. Shoppers were evacuated, and several businesses temporarily closed while authorities secured the area.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people fled when gunfire erupted. “It was terrifying — we just heard a loud pop and everyone started running,” said a shopper near the food court.

Police indicated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, though details regarding a motive or the relationship between the suspect and victim have not yet been released. Law enforcement will maintain a heightened presence around the mall while the investigation continues.

Authorities are asking anyone with video footage or information related to the incident to contact the Rock Hill Police Department. The mall is expected to reopen once the scene is fully cleared and deemed safe.
