Chicago, IL – Authorities have identified the man fatally shot near Altgeld Gardens on Thursday evening as 30-year-old LeBron Stewart, known in the community by the nickname “White Owl.”
The shooting happened around 7:03 p.m. on September 25, 2025, in the 13300 block of South Calumet. Witnesses reported hearing six to seven gunshots before finding Stewart lying near a street corner.
Responding officers discovered Stewart with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. An officer from Unit 506-Adam began CPR until paramedics arrived. Stewart was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center by Ambulance 51, but was pronounced dead at 7:41 p.m. by Dr. Bolaji.
At the scene, investigators recovered five shell casings, along with Stewart’s cellphone and hat. The Chicago Fire Department classified his transport as a traumatic arrest, Red, indicating the critical nature of his injuries.
Area 5 detectives are leading the investigation. No suspects are currently in custody, and police have not released information on a potential motive.
