SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

Police said the tragedy began around 12:30 p.m. when a family member called 911 to report that a relative had admitted to harming his wife and threatened to hurt himself. Dispatchers remained on the phone as the man allegedly stated that his wife was “gone.”

SWAT officers and hostage negotiators were deployed to the apartment complex on Venecia Drive. When officers tried to enter the residence, the suspect opened fire, injuring two Bossier City Police officers. Both officers were taken to a Shreveport hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were later released to recover at home.

After securing the scene, officers discovered Howard deceased in a bedroom. The suspect was located in another room with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

In a statement Monday, the Bossier City Police Department expressed gratitude for community support:

“On Sunday, two of our officers were hurt in the line of duty. We are grateful to share that both are doing well, in good spirits, and eager to begin their recovery journey at home once they are released from the hospital. We ask our community to continue to keep them in your prayers, as well as the other victims who were affected during Sunday’s incident.”

The Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into the shooting, which officials confirmed was a domestic violence case.
