Authorities have released the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning in Temple. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Mark Poirier of Moody, according to the Temple Police Department.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 5:52 a.m. on October 14, 2025, following reports of a pedestrian being hit in the 10,700 block of West Highway 36. Responding officers found Poirier critically injured at the scene. Despite swift efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead shortly after 6 a.m.

The section of the roadway where the crash occurred was closed in both directions for several hours as investigators examined the scene and collected evidence. During the closure, traffic was diverted through a nearby CEFCO parking lot to maintain the flow of vehicles.
Authorities have not yet disclosed information about the SUV driver or the events leading up to the collision. The Temple Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the incident to determine the cause and whether any factors such as speed or visibility played a role.
