The McAlester community is reeling from the tragic loss of 31-year-old Casey Nelms, who died following an officer-involved shooting on November 8, 2025. The incident occurred around 1:14 p.m. on the 500 block of West Park Avenue when the McAlester Police Department responded to a welfare check.
According to authorities, officers made contact with Nelms, and during the interaction, he allegedly brandished a knife and advanced toward the officers. In response, officers used deadly force. Nelms was immediately given life-saving measures and transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
