A mother and her 18-year-old son were involved in a devastating car crash last weekend as they made their way to Kansas City to watch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Megan Barnett had planned a surprise for her son, Connor Barba, ahead of his 19th birthday—a pair of tickets to see his favorite football player, quarterback Baker Mayfield, in action.
However, what was meant to be a memorable trip for the two turned tragic when they were struck head-on by another vehicle. According to Kansas State Police, the collision occurred when their car collided with a Chevy Camaro.
The crash left Barba and the driver of the Camaro dead at the scene, while Barnett, the mother, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the ICU at a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Family members, deeply shaken by the tragedy, have provided a glimpse into the heroic actions of Connor Barba in his final moments. His uncle told local news outlet KOCO that Connor’s swift reaction behind the wheel might have saved his mother’s life. “Connor swerved right in a way and slammed on the brakes as hard as he could,” the uncle shared. “When Connor did that, he took the full brunt of the car of the Camaro.”
Despite Barba’s valiant efforts, the crash claimed his life, leaving the family in mourning. In an emotional tribute, Barnett’s friends and relatives are rallying around her as she fights for recovery, supported by the immense love and generosity pouring in from the community.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family to help with medical expenses and support during this incredibly difficult time. As of now, Barnett remains in critical condition, but there is hope for her recovery as she continues to receive treatment.
The tragedy has not gone unnoticed, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stepping up to show their support for Barba’s grieving family. The NFL team has pledged a generous $10,000 donation to assist with the family’s needs.
